Some of the developers on the core dev team for JBoss spun themselves off as The Core Developer Network LLC in August, reportedly unhappy with life under the JBoss Group flag. Then their access rights to the code versioning system were cut off. The result was a

How Hard is it for a High School Student? This is an excellent post from an honest, reflective teacher who's questioning some of the basic premises of educating teenagers in schools. The implied comparison between the high-school experience and workplaces is interesting, and some of the comments address it further. It's not related to technology or instructional design...actually, I'm realizing that my last few entries don't either. I guess I'm in one of my back-up-a

I'm at MIT today for the Emerging Technologies Conference and a reception for the TR100 award. Afternoon panels are kicking off, I skipped the morning to enjoy breakfast and coffee with my mom. About Pachyderm (and reusability of learning objects)
I've mentioned Pachyderm a few times, and hinted at it more than that. So, what is Pachyderm, and why is it interesting? For starters, take a look at some sample projects completed using Pachyderm 1.0. Pachyderm is a project started by the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, out of a need to create some kick-ass interactive pieces from their collection of assets (images mostly, but also audio and video). They built a tool that took what are now called learning objects, and with some input from a curator, generated a highly interactive Flash piece that was way more than...

The good of file sharing
As we try to balance the rights of artists to be compensated, let's be willling to blurt out a plain truth: It is good that we can find millions of songs on the Internet and listen to them for free. This is a good thing. That's not to say that it is the ultimate good that must be honored or that it's more important compared with the rights of creators. But can we at least acknowledge that living in a world where we can listen to the world's music is a good thing?...
