No Rest for Michael Allen
The Minneapolis Star Tribune has a brief story on Michael Allen, the original force behind the what became Macromedia's Authorware. His company's merger with Macromind created Macromedia, and made Allen a wealthy man. Allen retired from Macromedia, but is still in the interactive training field and currently runs a small (40 person) firm known as "Allen Interactions" with a mission to produce training which is "meaningful, motivational and memorable". Shoe leather for the Gov
It should rain when you canvass for a candidate. Not a downpour but enough of a drizzle that your hair is plastered to your head and your shirt never gets quite dry. And it should be cold. Glove cold. And the first person you meet should definitely not agree with you. Easy virtue isn't worth it. (Accidentally leaving your umbrella, hat, cell phone and lunch at the local campaign headquarters is purely optional, however. Sigh.) I'm home and dry now. My shoes are off and my feet are up. I feel good that I did a little tiny bit...

Blogging and RSS — The "What's It?" and "How To" of Powerful New Web Tools for Educators (Will Richardson): The internet has long been valued by teachers and librarians as a powerful research and communications tool, and in the last 10 years, it has brought about a sea change in the way students find, manage, and use information. But the promise of the Web as more than just a readable, searchable resource has been slow to be realized ... until now.

Way down at the bottom of the site's front page the Invisible Adjunct shows how powerful a cluster of related quotations can be, without any comment by the author. The short passages focus on a disturbing aspect of academic life, the abusive labor practices associated with hiring large numbers of part-time faculty. This cluster is a good model for certain kinds of class assignments, for example as a step toward a longer piece that would, among other things, analyze the quotations as part of...

Weblog tools are, hopefully, good at helping you write a weblog and/or read other people's weblogs. They're simple and flexible enough to be stretched in d
