Digital River Takes Over No one is shocked any longer to hear that Digital River has added to their impressive collection of acquisitions. This time, only the size of the acquisition was surprising. On April 19, 2004 Digital River announced that they added ShareIt / Element5 to their collection of registration services for a paltry sum of 120 million dollars. Realizing that I had taken an interest and written about their past acquisitions Brant Pallazza, Vice President of Shareware at Digital River contacted me and welcomed the opportunity to answer any questions that I had. Through Democracy? The Road to Modernisation. What will be required to modernise the backward societies that still exist all over the world? The western world, led by the United States of America, is trying to spread democracy accross the world. It is believed that it will resolve the problem of international terrorism by creating democratic societies in places that have traditionally been breeding grounds for terrorists. That it will stimulate the local economy and so reduce poverty. mama's day My wife, who, eight months ago, became the mother of this amazing boy who now says "mama," told me the story of mothers' day last night. Today, Mark Goldman sent around the poem that began it. There are almost 600 American mothers who are thinking of just one loss today. Countless more elsewhere. They tell themselves about duty. Bravery. Courage. Yet I can't begin to understand how anyone, mother or father, survives such a loss. Nor how anyone could understand it. Time to Write Anne brings up a key point about giving students more time to write. I read somewhere recently that American schools are not giving students much time to write. Something like 69% of fourth grade teachers reported spending ninety minutes or less per week on writing activities. The time is even less as you go up in the grades. So maybe that's reason enough. Let weblogs be the place for students to write on a frequent basis. That way we'll be making wr From weblogged News on May 9, 2004 at 6:50 p.m..
