By New Year it had landed on the desk of the Red Cross's president, Jakob Kellenberger. A former Swiss diplomat, largely to European missions, it would present of the greatest challenges of his career. Spammers 12 / Me Zero It was all for nought. My research, attempts to tidy up the movabletype holes, changing names of comment scripts, did squat. OS X and Horribly Slow Web Page Downloads For reasons I can't fathom, my Mac running OS X takes forever to download some Web pages that take no time at all with Windows. The one thing I've noticed is that the Mac has a lot of trouble resolving certain advertising URLs, particularly Doubleclick.net ads that are served along with the actual pages in question -- which, sorry to say, include this blog's pages. Does anyone have any idea what might be happening here? Post a comment below if you do. Thanks. From Dan Gillmor's eJournal on May 10, 2004 at 9:49 p.m..

Like fighting with one hand behind your back New York Times had an article today on how VoIP will change the competitive landscape in Canada with regards to data communication. One thing's for sure, there will be more competition around - the question is how substantial it will be. I'm still not 100% convinced that the likes of Primus and Vonage have the killer app, but they're products are definitely decent. An interesting quote about how regulated the ILECs are: ...The phone companies are especially concerned that VoIP technology will give cable operators a free hand to offer "triple play" bundling, or discounted prices From silentblue | Quantified on May 10, 2004 at 8:02 p.m..

Writing Transitions: Framing Before Finishing In some ways, writing is like building a house. Your outline is only the blueprint. Storytelling: The Narrative World Lately I've become intrigued by the concept of storytelling – why people do it, how we do it, and the role it plays in all sorts of relating (socially, culturally, professionally, among families and friends, and even in the communities of science and technology). One thing that strikes me about weblogs is how they have quite effectively re-integrated the element of storytelling with mass communication – not just because bloggers often tell stories, but because their audiences often participate actively in those stories through comments and questions.
