Separation of personal and profession-related weblogs This weblog, carvingCode, is now going to be used for personal musings and topics I find interesting that are not related to what I do in my profession. Like many, my career is only one facet of my life. It does not define me. As Jackson Browne once sang, "Don't confuse what you do, with what you do to survive." My career is certainly more important to me than simply something I do to survive. Still, it is only one facet. My interests range from reading, wood working, wood carving, playing the hammered dulcimer, animal rights and choosing to be vegan, to traveling in our From carvingCode on May 27, 2004 at 9:45 p.m..

E-Learning Strategies - Embrace or Eschew? With all the discussions happening in Britain (and just beginning in Canada) about e-learning strategies, it seems relevant to step back for a second and ask whether we need one at all, to ask whether "e-learning [is] really so special and different from what we know about pedagogy and student learning that, instead of viewing it as an integral part of a learning and teaching strategy, it requires a special strategy all of its own?" Robin Good's online event I "attended" Robin Good's online event about online collaboration technologies this evening. Not sure if I learnt that much from the discussion he had with Eugene Kim and Stuart Henshall, but it was nice to have a sense of being present with other people from all over the world at the same time. The system used (Communicast) was nice and simple and worked reasonably well, even over my 128K connection. However, I wish they'd make it possible for a participant like myself to at least see a list of the audience members and ideally to be able to text chat with others - even though tex From Collaborative Learning on May 27, 2004 at 2:54 p.m..
