That Tax Return 'Mistake'
CNN:
Frist: Tax-returns measure indefensible. "Does anyone believe that some staffer without permission thought up a scheme by which a chairman's 'agent' could have access to every IRS facility everywhere in this nation and every single IRS filing of every citizen of this nation?" said Sen. Dianne Feinstein, a California Democrat. "I mean, you know, we weren't born yesterday." Frist, the majority leader, claims someone will be held accountable. Let's see From

RSS2WAP
This site is meant for online conversions of RSS feeds into WML for access on WAP devices (RSS2WML, RSS WAP or RSS-to-WAP). It's free and you can make a link on your web site. Do you have WAP enabled mobile phone? Why not use it to read news or weblogs online? There are not many sites which offer WML pages but you'll be surprised how many sites offer RSS feeds.

The answer is positive -- a well-designed program really works. An article from the Sunday New York Times Magazine that highlights the most recent findings from the Perry Preschool Project. The study examines the lives of 1 From

How to Fold a Shirt translated
For those who thought there might be some trickery in the fabulous How to Fold a Shirt video I posted about, here's a translation I found on a message board: "Start by laying the Tshirt flat and sideways in front of you, neck opening to your right. Find the centerpoint on the far side and pinch it with your left hand, about two inches in from the far edge. With your right hand, draw a line from your left hand to the right edge of the tshirt, parallel to the edge of the shirt. This brings your right hand to... From

Ballmer Misrepresented Linux Patent Study
eWeek:
Author of Linux Patent Study Says Ballmer Got It Wrong. When Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer said he wasn't really saying that Linux violates more than 200 software patents, Microsoft followed up by saying Ballmer was only citing findings from a controversial study done this summer by OSRM (Open Source Risk Management), a risk-mitigation consultancy. The study claimed that Linux has been found to potentially violate 283 software patents. The author of that report, however, doesn't see thin From

Blogging vs. Posting
I've been feeling less than satisfied with my writing/blogging here of late. Even though I've stayed pretty consistent in terms of posting on a regular basis, I just don't feel like the quality of the posts has been as good or as meaningful as in the past. And maybe that's just it; it feels like posting, not blogging. It's a big difference for me, because I'm learning when I blog whereas I'm just collecting when I post. I've been over this turf before, I know, but to me, blogging is work. Not work in a job sense but work in a thinking/writing sense. B From

Attorney R. General
Joshua Glenn wonders in the Boston Globe today why the adminsitration will not release what the R in "Alberto R. Gonzales" stands for. What's Gonzales got to hide? Joshua guesses that R might stand for Rosebud, Ragnar, Reuben, Rico, Romeo or Rudyard. Or pehaps, he says, it's something French such as Rémy, Robbe-Grillet. Or perhaps Roewade, Rove or Rambo. Personally, I think it's Alberto Roosevelt Gonzales, but I'm open to speculation.... From

Conferenza - Professional blogging
Before bloggers were blogging, Conferenza was sending protobloggers to conferences to write up reports for those back home. Shel Israel has just sent me his write-up of PopTech, and it's durn good - concise and thoughtful. And I agree with him that this year's PopTech was superb. (No, his reports aren't always this upbeat, and even in this one he isn't shy about pointing out the few clunkers.) Conferenza costs $200/year for individuals, although first-timers get a 50% discount. Is it worth it? The quality is excellent, but you'll have to decide if it suits your needs. From

China Bloggers Emerge, But Not Too Loudly
SHANGHAI - They play a key role in a medium made to order for debating the issues of our times. And in the United States, Web logs spout forth a torrent of news and often scalding opinions on just about everything. Not so in China, where a certain timidity reigns. Economic freedoms are expanding in this nation of 1.3 billion people, nowhere more powerfully than here in Shanghai, an amazing city that seems to grow a new skyline every year and has become the commercial center of a vast land. Freedom of expression, the heart of political freedom, is making considerably less progress. The gover From

No Confidence Vote Passes Against UN Top Leadership
Already embattled with his ties to the Iraqi Oil for Food scandal, and what some term as the 'Food for Sex' scandal, Kofi Annan has dodged the latest bullet. Well, dodged only in the sense that specific allegations against him was removed at the last minute before passing. The UN staff union passed a resolution sharply critical of the world body's senior management but expressed support for beleaguered Secretary General Kofi Annan. An earlier draft of the resolution had strongly worded language about no confidence in senior staff of the United Nations, which has been buffe From
