When you arrange to teach this lesson, tell your learners that you want some feedback from them on your lesson. Rather than developing a formal evaluation instrument use de Edward Bono’s PMI.

  • P - positives

    - focus on the positives of the lesson-as-taught. Examine the lesson-as-planned including the evaluation of learning and lesson-as-taught for their positives. Think about the objectives, teaching strategies, sequence of activities, content (content and skills), evaluation instrument, learners participation, timing of each activity and the lesson as a whole. What was well done?

  • M - minuses

    - focus on the areas of weaknesses of the lesson-as-taught. Examine the lesson-as-planned including the evaluation of learning instrument, and the lesson-as-taught for their weaknesses. Use the same criteria as above. What was not done well?

  • I - interesting

    - focus on the interesting parts of the lesson that were neither positives or weaknesses. There were will be parts of the planning or teaching that do not fit into either of the other categories. Use the same criteria. They will be interesting.

  1. Either take notes while they are giving you this feedback or ask them to write it down for you.
  2. Avoid explaining why you did or did not do/say something.
  3. JUST LISTEN
  4. You may not agree with everything that is said/written.
  5. Incorporate these critiques with your critique in your assignment that you are going to hand in.
