Notes Page for Slide Chain4 [CH4]E Opportunities and Barriers Once learners are motivated to participate in some form of learning activity, opportunities and barriers for adult learning play an important role. If the learner comes with a strong motivation to learn, it likely their motivation force will encourage them to seek out special opportunities and to overcome modest barriers. For those weakly motivated, modest barriers may impede participation in the any learning activity. Notice the arrows are indicated in both directions. F. Information It is important to provide information that links motivated learners to appropriate learning opportunities. It is important not to forget the other parts of the diagram, (life transitions, goals and expectations, attitudes about education and self-esteem) when planning learning. G Participation The arrow from G to A, B and C is very important. People who have participated in their own learning are more likely to do so again in the future. Participatory learning can enhances self-esteem and create positive attitudes toward learning, that can lead to increased expectations of success. Research has proven that people who participate in their learning learn better.
