This planning cycle can be used for course planning or lesson planning. The arrows represent a continual path or cycle, and the arrows should point in both directions.

Objectives

The objectives are the bases of the learning cycle.

Content and Learning Activities

The content to be taught is present in each of the objectives. Suggested learning activities are present in each of the objectives’ verbs. The verbs suggest ways of teaching the content. Each verb describes the skills to be taught. For example, the verb create suggests that learners must be given the opportunity to create. Listing ideas or steps are not in keeping with the verb create. The objective requires that learners must do an activity that requires that they create.

Assessment of Learning

When learners are assessed, it must be directly related to the objective. In assessing student’s learning, once again the objective becomes the focus of the assessment. For example, when learners are evaluated they must create something.
