To use telnet with your internet browser, you need to
do two things: first, you need to download and
install a telnet client; and second, you need
to tell your bowser where to find your telnet client.
The instructions on this page are for users of Windows
3.1 only. If you are a Mac user, you're on your own
(but hey, Mac users don't need instructions, right?).
Also, these instructions assume you are using a Netscape
browser.
Downloading and Installing Telnet
The telnet client we recommend is Ewan. If you do not
have Ewan installed on your system (and you should check,
just in case) then you can download it
here.
Place the downloaded file, ewan105.exe, into a
temporary directory. Execute the file by double clicking
on it in File Manager (or by clicking on 'File', 'Run',
then entering the filename). This will produce an expanded
set of files, one of which is called setup.exe.
Run setup by double clicking on it in File Manager.
Ewan will then install itself on your hard drive.
Configuring Netscape for Telnet
In Netscape, click on 'Options', then 'Preferences'. Select
'Applications and Directories'. You will see an area titled
'Telnet Application'. Click on the 'Browse' button beside
that window. Find the file ewan.exe in the directory
Ewan was installed. Click on it to select this file. Click
on 'OK'. This brings you back to the 'Applications and
Directories' window. Click on 'OK' again. Click on 'Options'
and then 'Save Options'.
Test your installation by clicking
here. You
should be able to access the MAUD now. Again, if you have
any problems, please post your question to the
MAUDL List Server.
