eduMOOC Week Eight - Our Final Week! What should I do?
Enjoy, learn, connect, network, reflect, think, share, make a difference.... it's a MOOC!
Program and Resources Expanding Daily!
Visit Often for Updates!
The Center for Online Learning, Research and Service at the University of Illinois Springfield welcomes you to a Massive Open Online Class (MOOC) on “Online Learning Today...and Tomorrow.” It will continue through August 19. It is totally open, free, and collaborative. It can be totally asynchronous, or those attending can join in weekly panel discussions with experts in various aspects of the topic. This is an active and growing resource and networking center on the topic of "Online Learning Today, and Tomorrow." You will have the opportunity to meet many people around the world who share your interest in this topic.
You are invited to register (see right column) with only your name and email address so you can be given access to all materials, panels and discussions. Within a day after you register, you will admitted to Google Group Edumooc which will allow you to enter into discussions and - if you so designate - to receive a listserv of postings. You are invited to list your networking contacts such as email, blogs, twitter, etc. at the form linked in the left navigation column.
Enrollment Update!
We are elated to see enormous interest in this topic! Since the Monday morning announcement of the MOOC, we have enrolled more than 2,600 participants from 70 countries in Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia, and the Americas; still no one has identified as themselves from Antarctica, but we remain hopeful! Those participating are from colleges, universities, community colleges, libraries, school systems, educational association, and many other entities.
Countries represented among those registered include: Argentina Australia Austria Belgium Belize Botswana Brazil Bulgaria Burundi Canada Chile China Colombia Cyprus Czech Republic Denmark Djibouti Dominican Republic Ecuador Ethiopia Fiji Finland France Germany Greece Guyana India Indonesia Ireland Israel Italy Japan Kuwait Laos Malaysia Mauritius México Morocco Netherlands New Zealand Nigeria Norway Pakistan Philippines Poland Portugal Puerto Rico Qatar Samoa Saudi Arabia Scotland Serbia South Africa Spain St. Vincent/the Grenadines Sudan Sweden Taiwan Thailand Trinidad/Tobago Turkey UAE Uganda UK Ukraine Venezuela USA Vietnam West Indies.
We will add all who register to the Google Group in daily uploads. So, please be patient and know that the day after you enroll, you are to receive an email from Google Group eduMOOC via the email you used for registration (check be sure it has not been misidentified as "spam"). If you are not notified, please email clevi2@uis.edu.

Before we begin
We encourage you to view these two brief, but informative videos from Dave Cormier that answer the question "What is a MOOC?"

... and "What is 'success' in a MOOC?"

Now that we have a common understaning, here is
How the eduMOOC is Organized
Eight topics have been chosen - one for each week. You will see the schedule for those topics below. A Web page is linked below and in the left navigation column for each topic - those pages include details about the topic for each week, including links to about 20 timely resources including articles, Websites, Twitter hashtags, blogs, wikis and more that are relevant to the topic of the week. Collectively we will build on that base of 20. On Thursday of each week a live one hour Webinar panel discussion will be held with experts on the topic.
Google Group eduMOOC
Those registering for the course - see the short form in the right column above - will be invited to join the Google Group "eduMOOC" where threaded discussions will be held. This is where networking will begin among those attending the MOOC. After you have accepted the email invitation to the Google Group, you'll be taken to the group to set your nickname and email delivery options.
When you're ready to participate in the discussions, you may go directly to http://groups.google.com/group/edumooc. Please familiarize yourself with the threads. Jason Rhode has created a Screen Cast on navigating our Google Group. http://www.jasonrhode.com/screencast-tours-of-edumooc-google-group-alerts-reader Make posts inside threads if appropriate (i.e. introductions should be posted as a "reply" to the first posting in the Introductions thread). If your posting does not fit in the threads, create a new thread!
If you are using an email account other than gmail, you'll need to set up a Google account in order to access the group. View this Slideshare presentation for instructions: http://www.slideshare.net/NotJustCricket/using-non-google-id-with-google-groups
Wikis
Additional opportunities to discuss and create collaborations are popping up in wikis around the 'net. Wikispaces eduMOOC is one site that is hosting information and discussions. Visit the site and join to participate! An OREu Study Group is open now at WikiEducator. Visit the site, learn about the Open Education Resources University initiative and join to participate!
We will use the #edumooc hashtag for tweets regarding the MOOC. You will see those displayed in the gadget on this page. Tweet links to resources, your own blog posts on eduMOOC topics, videos, etc. We encourage tweeting and Twitter discussions.
Contribute Resources to This Site
You are encouraged to browse those sites and to add sites in Diigo. We will transfer the new Diigo sites to the appropriate list on a daily basis. Please use the "edumooc" tag if you would like your selected sites to be transferred to the topic resource page.
Live Sessions
Live panel discussion sessions will be held each Thursday at 2:00 pm eastern daylight, 1:00 pm central daylight, noon mountain daylight, 11:00 am pacific daylight and 7:00 pm London time. They may be viewed live online at:
http://www.uis.edu/technology/live/edumooc.html
Your screen will look like this:
The audio of the panel and slides will appear on the left of the screen
The #edumooc twitter back channel feed will appear center screen
