Music icon John Legend performed virtually on Thursday with the audience attending through #VirtualReality and via a YouTube live stream (link below). Using #MotionCapture technology, his digital avatar replicated his physical movements creating an immersive, life-like experience. The technology provider behind the concert, Wave, allowed audience members to participate by donating to FREEAMERICA, an organisation Legend founded which aims to shine a light on the injustices of mass incarceration. When they did this, a comet would shoot through the digital sky with their name and donation attached to it - a wonderful way to engage virtual audiences while contributing to a good cause. For VR users, Wave supports most tethered headsets such as the Oculus Rift S, HTC Vive and Valve Index and can be downloaded on Steam here: https://lnkd.in/gTn2iyJ High quality recording of the full performance on YouTube: https://lnkd.in/grTv_Nn Donate to FREEAMERICA: https://lnkd.in/gQWTYvV #Music #Entertainment #VR
I love this. Great use of technology.
Brilliant idea!
Such a beauty!
Amazing use of VR and this will undoubtedly pave the way for other musicians to follow! He’s always been years ahead of his time, and still remains that way after 40 years of making music! 👏🏻👏🏻
Absolutely incredible!
We definitely want to see digital avatar of the performer, but not very sure about the glitchy blingbling star around him... a little bit distracting?

But I was a bit surprised about the fortnite look in here. Reduces the high quality. If you see the imagined reality behind anime star Hatsune Miko I would prefer higher volumetric and texture quality capturing even in real time.
His ‘first’ VR gig was actually with Melody VR over a month ago....
