A community is one of those things that can go either way, in my view - it can be a network of people living in the same place or doing the same thing, or it can become a group, define boundaries, and stress sameness and leadership. [link: Hits] Well it's hard not to get all giddy if you're a supporter of online learning. From this Sloan Consortium report based on responses from over 2,200 colleges and universities: "There has been no leveling of the growth rate of online enrollments; institutions of higher education report record online enrollment growth on both a numeric and a percentage basis... By an increasing margin, most Chief Academic Officers believe that the quality of online instruction is equal to or superior to that of face-to-face learning." (P.S. note to Ubuntu on the Adobe document reader: thank you thank you thank you (at last - PDFs that open instantly and properly, no more of the awful Adobe Readers that gummed up the works in both Windows and Linux).

[link: 1 Hits] Terry Anderson writes, "Jamie Anderson, from SFU Surrey Library has created an addendum for the APA Manual that provides updates and suggested formats for citing online resources. Though not definitive (wait till the next edition) it provides examples that extend the rationale for APA resource citation to newer information dissemination protocols, including e-books, blogs and email etc." I like this bit of advice: "Don't cite it as an online source if you haven't viewed the text of the article/book online! ... Some databases show you the full text of the article, but others only provide the title, author and a brief summary." Oh my yes, I have learned this one well. :) [Tags:

Well I really like this site - but because I'm working with an absolutely sparkling clean brand new install of Ubuntu, all I have on my system to test it with are .png and .ogg files - and while the converter supports these as output formats, it can't handle them as inputs.
