APA Publishes “Good Practices Guide”

This article notes, "The American Philosophical Association (APA) has published its Good Practices Guide, “a set of recommendations to help philosophers create and maintain an academic community based on mutual respect, fairness, inclusivity, and a commitment to scholarship and learning.” A lot of it (like scheduling meetings, the section on washrooms, etc) is very specific to the academic context, but large swathes of it (like 'norms of respect') have much wider applicability. 95 page PDF.

I don't know why publications continue to promote this tired - and wrong - argument (I'll put it in the list of academic papers I need to write, offering a refutation of the view). It is ironic that the example in this argument actually proves the opposite of the point. “Using the analogy was not hard; the problem was thinking to use it in the first place,” Willingham explained. Well that's right. Unless you understand that analogy works independently of domain, you wouldn't think to use it.
