The Many Facets of “Identity”
Radia Perlman,
InfoQ,
2023/11/24
This is a transcript of a talk at QCom and it reads like that, but it also reads like a rant of one of the best kinds. Radia Perlman (who assures us she's the only person in the world with that name) discusses the many facets of identity and the frustrations internet users experience with each of them. How do we describe who we are, who do we prove it (assuming we should) to others, and mostly, how do we avoid drowning in confusion over the whole topic. Great talk, and you should read to the very hand-licking end.

An AI Activity to Try With Faculty
Lance Eaton,
AI + Education = Simplified,
2023/11/24
This article describes an attempt to have participants in a faculty forum work together to create an 'edge case' with an AI where they can experiment with prompts to see how what they submit makes the resulting resource more or less usable. The idea was to provide it with a case study in some discipline, and then ask it to produce five similar, but not identical, case studies. Would it produce something original? Or would the result just be flat copies of the case study provided? It was an interesting activity, but Lance Eaton reports having difficulty making it work in the time allotted in the group setting. That sounds to me like a pretty common problem.
