Fediverse Enabled Event Platforms
CoSocial Members Community,
2023/12/18
This is a very short list of some fediverse-enabled event platforms. Well, three platforms. The idea here is to allow anyone to organize an event without requiring users to give all their information into some centralized platform. One I looked at, Gathio, features "self-destructing, shareable, no-registration event pages." Another, Mobilizon, has the most polished presentation. The third, Gancio, aggregates events and exports them "in many ways: via RSS feeds, via global or individual ics, allowing you to embed list of events or single event via iframe or webcomponent on other websites, via AP, microdata and microformat." It's long past time we broke through the logjam that is event scheduling. Via Boris Mann.

Generative AI in education - Call for Evidence: summary of responses
UK Department for Education,
2023/12/18
This document (44 page PDF) summarizes responses to a call for submissions in the UK last summer. "Respondents were teachers who were early adopters of GenAI with positive views towards this technology." The usual concerns about AI were expressed, and not surprisingly, respondents "demonstrated a clear appetite for increased support... training and guidance, improvements to existing digital infrastructure in educational institutions, regulation around data protection, and wider reforms to curricula and assessment." Information collected from the project was used to inform a Generative AI Hackathon. In addition to the findings the report offers three case studies at the end. Via Alejandro Saucedo.

Do you like tech predictions? Here's at least 157 slide decks from major consulting firms on trends in tech for 2024. KPMG, S&P, PWC, Adweek, UNICEF - they're all represented here. Pro Tip: click on the grid view - - at the upper right to get thumbnail images so you can scroll through the title screens. I've only had a chance to look at a few of them. Via Ben Malbon.Mark Oehlert suggests, "Need to write a GPT to ingest all these decks and then report back out on their accuracy this time next year."

Connecting the Three Spheres of Data Management to Unlock Value
Willem Koenders,
Dataversity,
2023/12/18
This is an introduction to data management offering a model based on tghree major components (quoted/paraphrased): physical systems that capture and document of metadata for physical systems and applications; data modeling, covering and clarifying data elements, data domains, owners, and definitions; and business processes, related to organizational divisions such as customer management, product or service delivery, marketing, finance, risk, and human resources. This structure is used to describe such things as pitfalls, implementation, architecture, and roles. It's not deep, but it's detailed enough to offer a good place to start.
