Some preliminary thoughts on DeepSeek, the Chinese large language model, from Jisc. While I echo their concern about censorship, I think we would be fooling ourselves if we did not think much the same degree of censorship exists in U.S.-based models. I would also exercise caution regarding statements like "Trump announced a $500 billion investment into AI" because what Trump says and what Trump does are often two very different things.
