Winter Storm Blacks Out Thousands

Internet access was already spotty on Saturday, but the first sign that something was really amiss was the torrent of water pouring through my kitchen ceiling Sunday morning. It was only a matter of minutes before the cable and internet went down for what would be the rest of the day as a major ice storm swept through Moncton, New Brunswick. It was eerie listening to the trees crackle and to watch ice-covered branches litter the streets; in the night blue flashes of light flickered over the city as another line went down. Much of the city was without power all day yesterday and today - some parts are still without power - but things began to come back on at my place this afternoon, my web site springing to life this evening. So I'll take this chance to send you a short OLDaily, just enough to let you know that tomorrow's OLDaily may not appear, as we're expecting more of the same. I am due to fly to Ottawa tomorrow. Even if I make it, the presentation I had planned will not be available. But for now, at least, we're all safe, sound and warm, which all things considered isn't so bad at all.
