I commented when this came out that I hope that this sort of initiative would not bring paywalls to the fediverse. By this I meant: it's going to bring paywalls to the fediverse. "The long-term vision that CrowdBucks is a part of is to create a payments layer for the Fediverse," Reiver explains, "obviously, it's not the only part, there will be other projects later." Now sure, I think people should be paid for their work. But there's no good reason why posting to the fediverse should become work. Why can't we just have a network where we talk to each other without people trying to make a business of it? I think there is something wrong with a mindset that things everything must be monetized.
