The story's angle is that people are opposed to funding this particular charter school because it provides online learning exclusively. But forget this angle; newspapers crave conflict, but the conflict isn't the real story. The real story is that among the many flavours of education available in the new education environment, online learning will be one of the options available. Indeed, the trends toward online learning and alternative education are marching hand in hand. But supporters of public education should not identify the two (as they do in this article): the best way to support a public education is to ensure that it is available in the many varieties private operators are beginning to explore.
