eLearning Forum Update: Peer-to-Peer

Pretty good summary of a discussion of peer-to-peer (P2P) networking and its potential impact on online learning. The idea behind peep-to-peer networking is that computers share resources directly with each other, without the need for a central server. Certainly, peer-to-peer will have to develop before it is used in online learning: there is no administration model, there is no content model, and there is no revenue model. The main thing about peer-to-peer, though, is that the providers of information (or learning, or whatever) will almost always be outnumbered by the consumers, which creates an inherent imbalance. Peer-to-peer will be used in collaborative enterprises, but expect traditional servers to keep up the job of distributing content. By Jay Cross, Learning Circuits, July, 2001.
