The Internet Goes to College
Pew Foundation,
Sept 17, 2002
We have known the information in this report anecdotally for some time, but it's nice to have some research. Think about this, for example: "One-fifth (20%) of today’s college students began using computers between theCRLFages of 5 and 8. By the time they were 16 to 18 years old all of today’s current college students had begun using computers – and the Internet was a commonplace in the world in which they lived." More and more, things like "internet training" become something we focus at faculty rather than students. This report has much more information, all of it pointing to the same general conclusion: for your students, at least, the internet is commonplace.
