Terry Anderson performs a service at the current Shaping Our Future conference by linking to the work of Alan Tough, Professor Emeritus at the University of Toronto, who during a career of 33 years, examined "(1) the long-term future of human civilization, (2) highly advanced intelligence in the universe, and (3) humanity's search for meaning and purpose on the individual and societal level." Tough's work at the current conference is relevant because of his 1967 book, Learning Without a Teacher, as well as Intentional Changes, written in 1982. But readers should not stop with his work on education; I personally enjoyed his work on futurism, and especially A Message From Future Generations (1995).
