When I was at AusWeb 01 I spent most of the conference working on a video project (I never did get my CD - if anyone out there has a copy of the video we created, please send it to me so I can share it with the list), making it one of my more interesting conference experiences. This report summarizes the results of similar exercises with similar technology that took place in 50 schools across the U.K. In sum, the use of video editing was found to increase pupil engagement with the curriculum, to promote and develop a range of learning styles, and to motivate and engage a wider range of pupils than traditional teaching methods. But digital video is no magic solution. It did not automatically improve the quality of work or standards of attainment. Teaching remains the key factor in raising achievement, but teachers need to be clear about their role in the process and what counts as creativity in digital video.
