W3C Publishes Patent Policy Draft

This has been an ongoing issue within the World Wide Web consortium (W3C) for many years: should it endorse standards for which royalties are charged? The answer, in a nutshell: No. The consortium is making the right call here. Allowing patent technologies to define the web not only allows individual companies to unduly benefit, it also grants those same companies an unreasonable amount of control over the net itself.
