Karl Kapp defends formal learning: "Anything less is not as effective and the performance will not be guaranteed." he explains that when lives are on the line, people are trained formally in established procedures. "The learning process is studied, calculated and formalized to a degree of realism as close to 100% as possible... The fidelity between the environment in which the performance is required and the environment in which it is trained and practiced is extremely high." It's a good case - but I wonder whether it's a good case for simulations and learning environment, as opposed to being a good case for formal learning.
