Provocative discussion of educational theory as instantiated in CRLFAmerican educational policy. In a nutshell, the argument is that the CRLFdirect instructional approach proposed under the Bush plan is not an CRLFeffective pedagogy. The author argues that the proposed plan is CRLF"cruel" and is driven by ideology, not pedagogy. The article raises, CRLFin my mind, a more general concern: as has been the case in other CRLFdisciplines, it seems that scientific research itself has taken on a CRLFpolitical dimension. This is making it increasingly difficult to make CRLFdecisions of society-wide importance. There is such a huge stake in CRLFthe result of this research - politically, socially, economically - that it CRLFmay be impossible to hope for independent studies anymore. But if CRLFwe lose our ability to rely on research... what then? Thanks, Mitchell, CRLFfor the link.
