According to this article, digital rights management (DRM) systems that offer strong copy protection are favoured by content producers, but hated by customers. And, as the article notes, the customers usually win. However, we may get dtrong DRM protection anyway because of the desire of businesses to keep corporate documents secure. The article overviews Microsoft's DRM system, to be rolled out this fall, pointing out in passing that it will work only with Office 2003 products. But really, "In eWEEK Labs' experience, any DRM restrictions can be easily defeated through the use of remote control, digital cameras, or even pen and paper."
