I imagine some time in the future we'll be reading about why Google's strategy failed and that the sort of thing it did doesn't work any more. But today is not that day, and as this article suggests, Google is currently riding high on an innovation strategy that is hard to implement but which seems to work. "What makes Google special is the way it's been able to integrate an entire portfolio of innovation strategies into a seamless whole. Product managers focus on customers needs. Researchers go where the science takes them. Engineers working on 20% time projects follow their passions. Anybody who wants to can adopt one or more of these approaches."
