I think this is a useful article (uploaded as a PDF to Slideshare) on the development of online learning resources (OLR) over time. It especially traces the evolution from Web 2.0 resources to cloud hosting and the era of big data. I think there`s more to it, but it`s clear the authors see a need for a new way of understanding OLR.
