Electron

Dec 25, 2018

"Electron is a framework for creating native applications with web technologies like JavaScript, HTML, and CSS. It takes care of the hard parts so you can focus on the core of your application." Applications like Slack for desktop, Atom, Beaker Browser, and more, have all been built in Electron. Basically it has a layer that interacts with your operating system, so it can do things like read and write files, and it has a layer that manages the display using the Chromium web browser engine. It has been around for a few years but is one of those things that could have a long shelf life. As for me, it's like I said to Andrea, "I've found a new toy to play with." Here's the official guide.
