You may have heard today that the Smithsonian has released some 2.8 million images into the public domain. But you might want to take a closer look. It's not just images. Sure, there are images - very high quality images. But there are also 3D models, a database and API, and pen educational resources on the Smithsonian's K–12 platform, Learning Lab. So my hat's off to them for doing an enormous public service. This is how our public investments are supposed to work. Image: Apollo 11 capsule, from the Smithsonian image collection.
