One of my rules for OLDaily is that if something eats an hour of my time, I post it here so it'll eat an hour of your time too. Today's instance of that rule in action is this website, which took me step by step through a number of common synthesizer elements. You can simply play with the synth tool, or you can (as I did) work your way through the explanations, starting here. No, you won't know how to play the synthesizer after an hour - but you will know what people are talking about when they talk about the 'brightness' of a sound. I really liked the interactive aspects of this tutorial: you manipulate controls and both see and hear what they're talking about (days like this I wish I had another lifetime just to explore and create electronic music).
