This post feels a bit like fearmongering and a bit like the recent edtech angst. Here, writes Nancy Baily, are terms teachers should watch for as signs of the impending all-edtech endgame: anytime/anywhere learning, deeper learning, digital equity, personalized learning, seat time, and whole child learning. She punctuates each with a brief summary and probing question. For example, on 'deeper learning' she says " It's not clear how children will learn subject basics." And for digital equity she asks, "Legislators bemoan the digital divide, but where have they been for teachers and students in their public schools?" All of these are open issues, but there's a presumption that traditional learning is fundamentally better, and I don't think that case has been made.
