Coverage of the recent Knowledge Held Hostage? Scholarly Versus Corporate Rights in the Digital World at the Annenberg School for Communication (it's too bad the conference didn't make presentations available online). According to the article, "Educators and legal experts contend new technologies and lawsuits are creating uncertainty about what is exempt under the law." Even where fair use rights exist, the threat of litigation has schools consulting their lawyers first, weighing the educational benefit against the cost of defending their rights. Good overall coverage; worth a read.
