On the one hand, this article is about how Cornerstone has become the dominant learning experience platform in the corporate space. On the other hand, and more interestingly, it's about what the company is trying to do. "The biggest challenge today," writes John Berson, "is what I call SkillsTech: corporate HR systems that try to figure out what skills you have, what skills you need, and how to find, build, and develop skills more quickly... The promise of SkillsTech is real, because 'skills' are essentially the 'Metadata of People' the way web traffic and webpages are the metadata of the internet." That's just a fancy way of saying "'skills' describe people", which is true, but of course, not complete. But what's more important is that this data is becoming widely used and ubiquitous. "Today vendors like Eightfold operate Talent Intelligence at scale (with more than 1.5 billion user profiles in the system)." What is Eightfold up to? According to its website, "Building a contingent workforce... with AI."
