Facing the reality of an article publication charge (APC) of $3460, the editors of the Elsevier journal NeuroImage all resigned. This post from PKP reiterates its commitment to noncommercial and independent scholarly publishing. "Publishing under pressure to maximize share-holder value and profit margins is not just counter to the pursuit of research, it is detrimental to the ethics, integrity, and impact of those engaged in such work." Quite right. I don't know why researchers publish in commercial journals any more.
