Following on the heels of the Google announcement covered here this week is this item in Roben Good describing a program by a company called Blogversations whereby a company contracts some bloggers in their field to review and discuss their products. Presumably, the sponsorship is for the bloggers' attention, not their endorsement - if the bloggers can write negative reviews, what's the point? I think it will be important for bloggers to be upfront about the fact that they are being paid to discuss such and such a product. Even so, I think there might be some bias in the selection of bloggers.
